What Is Nix?
Nix (permethrin) is a prescription medication used to manage head lice infestations. It works by disrupting the nerve cell membrane function of lice and their eggs (nits), causing paralysis and death of the parasites. With the right application technique and follow-up treatment if needed, most infestations can be fully resolved.

Frequently asked questions
After shampooing and towel-drying your hair, apply Nix cream rinse to saturate the hair and scalp. Leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water. A second treatment is usually recommended 7 to 10 days after the first to kill any lice that hatched from eggs that survived the initial application.
Nix (permethrin) has ovicidal activity, meaning it can kill lice eggs as well as live lice. However, some eggs may survive, which is why a follow-up application about 7 to 10 days later is commonly recommended. Combing out nits with a fine-toothed nit comb after treatment also improves outcomes.
Nix is generally well tolerated when used as directed. Some people experience mild temporary side effects such as scalp itching, redness, tingling, or numbness at the application site. These effects are usually short-lived. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes during application.
If live lice are still observed 24 hours after treatment or return after a second application, this may indicate resistance to permethrin in your area. Contact your Doctronic physician, as alternative treatments such as oral ivermectin may be considered.
Head lice spread through direct head-to-head contact. All household members with confirmed live lice or nits should be treated simultaneously. Those without signs of infestation do not necessarily need preventive treatment, but close monitoring is recommended.
Wash clothing, bedding, and recently used towels in hot water and dry on high heat. Items that cannot be washed can be sealed in a plastic bag for two weeks or placed in a hot dryer for at least 20 minutes. Soaking combs and brushes in hot water for 5 to 10 minutes is also recommended. Fumigant sprays are not necessary and are not recommended.
Doctronic uses an AI-guided evaluation to gather your symptoms and medical history, which is then reviewed by a licensed physician. If treatment is appropriate, your physician creates a personalized treatment plan. The entire process is designed to be fast, convenient, and clinically thorough.
