What Is Frova?

Frova (frovatriptan) is a prescription medication used to manage migraine headaches in adults. It works by selectively binding to serotonin 5-HT1B and 5-HT1D receptors, causing cranial blood vessel constriction and blocking the release of inflammatory neuropeptides that drive migraine pain. With the right dose and ongoing monitoring, most patients experience meaningful pain relief and can return to normal activities within hours of treatment.

Is Online Frova Treatment Right for You?

Frova (frovatriptan) is approved for acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults. It is intended to treat an active migraine episode, not to prevent future attacks, and works best when taken at the first sign of a headache.

Candidates for Frova should have an established migraine diagnosis and no history of cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled hypertension, hemiplegic or basilar migraine, or known hypersensitivity to triptans. A physician will review your full medical and cardiac history before prescribing.

Frequently asked questions

Frova (frovatriptan) is a selective serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist, a class of drugs called triptans. During a migraine, blood vessels in the brain dilate and inflammatory neuropeptides are released. Frovatriptan constricts those blood vessels and blocks neuropeptide release, reducing the pain and associated symptoms of a migraine attack.

Frova works best when taken at the first sign of a migraine headache. It is not intended to prevent migraines or to treat cluster headaches. If your headache returns after an initial response, a second dose may be taken at least 2 hours after the first, but no more than 3 tablets (7.5 mg) should be taken in a 24-hour period.

Most patients begin to notice pain relief within 2 to 4 hours of taking Frova. Its longer half-life of about 26 hours compared to other triptans means it may be especially effective for migraines that tend to come back or for menstrually associated migraines that can last several days.

The most commonly reported side effects include dizziness, headache, paresthesia (tingling or numbness), fatigue, dry mouth, and flushing. Chest tightness or pressure can occur and should be reported to your doctor promptly. Serious cardiovascular events are rare but possible, which is why a physician will review your cardiac history before prescribing.

Frova is not appropriate for people with a history of coronary artery disease, uncontrolled hypertension, stroke or TIA, peripheral vascular disease, hemiplegic or basilar migraine, or known hypersensitivity to frovatriptan. It should also not be used within 24 hours of another triptan or ergotamine-containing medication due to the risk of additive vasoconstriction.

Frova is approved only for acute (as-needed) treatment of migraine attacks, not for daily prevention. However, some physicians use short-term frovatriptan dosing around the time of menstruation as a mini-preventive strategy for menstrually associated migraine. This off-label use should be discussed with your treating physician.

Doctronic uses an AI-guided evaluation to gather a detailed picture of your symptoms and medical history. A licensed physician then reviews your information, determines whether treatment is appropriate, and creates a personalized treatment plan. The entire process takes place online, so there is no waiting room or in-person visit required.
