Does Tirzepatide Cause Hair Loss

Hair loss can occur as a side effect of tirzepatide treatment. This occurs in approximately 3-5% of patients, typically appearing 3-6 months after starting treatment. The hair thinning happens because rapid weight loss can trigger telogen effluvium, a temporary condition where hair follicles enter a resting phase. This type of hair loss is usually reversible once the body adjusts to the medication and weight stabilizes. Patients experiencing concerning hair changes should discuss this with their healthcare provider. Maintaining proper nutrition and adequate protein intake may help minimize this effect during weight loss treatment.
