Can You Take Tums While on Ozempic?
Medically reviewed by Faith Coleman, University of New Mexico School of Medicine on August 23rd, 2026.
Yes, you can take Tums while on Ozempic. There are no direct drug interactions between calcium carbonate (Tums' active ingredient) and semaglutide (Ozempic). Studies show that 15-20% of GLP-1 users experience heartburn or acid reflux as side effects. If you are using the "Ozempic pill", marketed as Rybelsus, timing is important. Take the Rybelsus on an empty stomach with 4 ounces of water or less. Wait 30 minutes before using Tums, to avoid decreased absorption. Timing is not important with Ozempic in the injectable form. If your heartburn lasts longer than two weeks, consult your healthcare provider to evaluate whether your symptoms indicate a need for dosage adjustment or additional treatment options.
