What Is Exforge?
Exforge (amlodipine-valsartan) is a prescription medication used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). It works by combining a calcium channel blocker (amlodipine), which relaxes and widens blood vessels, with an angiotensin II receptor blocker (valsartan), which prevents a hormone from tightening blood vessels and raising blood pressure. With the right dose and ongoing monitoring, most patients can achieve meaningful reductions in blood pressure and lower their risk of serious cardiovascular events.

Is Online Exforge Treatment Right for You?
Exforge may be appropriate for adults with hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on a single medication, or who are already taking amlodipine and valsartan as separate pills. A Doctronic physician will review your current blood pressure readings, medical history, and any medications you are already taking before prescribing.
Because Exforge affects the cardiovascular and renal systems, your provider will also consider factors such as kidney function, potassium levels, and any history of heart failure, liver disease, or prior reactions to calcium channel blockers or ARBs. Pregnant patients should not use valsartan-containing products.

Frequently asked questions
Exforge is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker) and valsartan (an angiotensin II receptor blocker). Amlodipine relaxes the smooth muscle in artery walls, while valsartan blocks a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict. Together they lower blood pressure through two different mechanisms, which can be more effective than either drug alone.
Exforge is typically prescribed for adults with hypertension who have not reached their blood pressure goal on a single medication, or who are already tolerating amlodipine and valsartan separately and want the convenience of one pill. It is not recommended during pregnancy or for patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity to either component.
Exforge is taken once daily, with or without food. Your physician will determine the right strength based on your current blood pressure, your response to treatment, and any other medications you take. Do not adjust your dose or stop taking it without speaking to your provider.
The most commonly reported side effects include peripheral edema (swelling in the ankles or feet, related to the amlodipine component), dizziness, headache, and upper respiratory infection. Less commonly, patients may experience low blood pressure, especially when standing. Contact your provider if side effects are bothersome or persistent.
Exforge should not be taken with other ARBs, ACE inhibitors, or aliskiren in most patients, as combining renin-angiotensin system agents raises the risk of low blood pressure, high potassium, and kidney problems. Tell your doctor about all medications, supplements, and over-the-counter drugs you are taking. Avoid use during pregnancy, as valsartan can cause fetal harm.
Caution is advised in patients with significant kidney or liver impairment. Valsartan is primarily eliminated by the liver, and amlodipine is also extensively metabolized hepatically, so dose adjustments or an alternative regimen may be needed. Your Doctronic physician will review your health history before prescribing.
