What Is Aldara?
Aldara (imiquimod 5%) is a prescription medication used to manage external genital warts caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). It works by activating the body's own immune response to recognize and destroy HPV-infected cells at the application site. With the right dosing schedule and ongoing monitoring, most patients see significant clearance of warts within several weeks of consistent use.

Is Online Aldara Treatment Right for You?
Aldara is prescribed for adults with external genital or perianal warts caused by HPV. It is applied directly to visible wart lesions and is not appropriate for internal warts, open wounds, or certain other skin conditions. Your Doctronic physician will review your history and confirm that imiquimod is the right fit for you.
Because Aldara works through the immune system, your physician will also consider any history of autoimmune conditions, immunosuppression, or recent treatments to the affected skin area. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and certain medications can affect suitability, so a complete health history is essential before a prescription is issued.

Frequently asked questions
Aldara cream is applied to each visible external wart three times per week, typically on alternating days such as Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. You apply a thin layer at bedtime, leave it on for 6 to 10 hours, and then wash it off with mild soap and water. Do not apply inside the vagina, urethra, rectum, or anus.
Most patients use Aldara for up to 16 weeks. Many see noticeable wart clearance within 8 to 12 weeks, but individual response varies. If warts have not cleared after 16 weeks of use, your physician should be contacted to reassess the treatment plan.
The most common side effects are local skin reactions at the application site, including redness, itching, burning, swelling, and flaking or scabbing. These reactions are expected signs that the immune system is responding. Severe reactions should be reported to your physician promptly.
You should avoid any sexual contact, including oral, vaginal, and anal contact, while Aldara cream is on your skin. The cream can weaken latex condoms and diaphragms and may irritate a partner. Genital warts can still be transmitted even during treatment, so barrier protection is important.
Aldara treats existing visible warts but does not eliminate HPV infection from the body and does not prevent future outbreaks. The virus can remain dormant and warts may recur. Vaccination with an HPV vaccine, when appropriate, may help reduce the risk of infection with certain HPV strains.
Aldara is classified as pregnancy category C, meaning animal studies have shown potential risk and adequate human studies are lacking. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit clearly outweighs the risk. Inform your Doctronic physician if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Doctronic uses AI-powered evaluation to gather your health history and symptoms, which is then reviewed by a licensed physician. The physician determines whether a prescription is appropriate and creates a personalized treatment plan. The entire process happens online, so you never need to visit a physical office.
