What Does Chlamydia Discharge Look Like?

When chlamydia causes symptoms, it may cause an unusual vaginal discharge or discharge from the penis. Its color, thickness, odor, and timing can vary, and appearance alone cannot identify chlamydia or distinguish it from other infections. According to the CDC, up to 75% of women and 50% of men with chlamydia show no symptoms at all. The discharge may be accompanied by burning during urination, pelvic pain, or bleeding between periods in women. Because symptoms can be subtle or absent, laboratory testing is the only way to know whether you have chlamydia. Ask a healthcare professional how often you should be tested based on your age, sexual history, exposures, and symptoms.
