Does Herpes Show up on a Standard STD Panel?

No, herpes testing is not included in most standard STD panels. Standard panels typically screen for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV, but herpes simplex virus (HSV-1 and HSV-2) requires separate testing. The CDC estimates that 1 in 6 Americans aged 14-49 have genital herpes, yet many remain undiagnosed because routine screening isn't standard practice. Herpes blood tests measure antibodies and can detect both HSV types even without visible symptoms. If you're concerned about herpes exposure, specifically request HSV testing from your healthcare provider, as it won't be automatically included in routine STD screenings.
