What Causes a Cold Sensation in Your Chest?

A cold sensation in the chest is not a specific medical symptom and can have several possible causes. A clinician may need to consider the sensation alongside any other symptoms and the person's medical history. Cold air exposure, viral infections like the common cold, or acid reflux can trigger this feeling by irritating airways or the esophagus. Anxiety or a panic attack can cause unusual chest sensations, sometimes along with rapid breathing, a racing heartbeat, or chest tightness. However, new or concerning chest symptoms should not automatically be attributed to anxiety. Some medicines can affect heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, or temperature perception.
