What Causes a Bruise on Your Chin for No Reason?

Linda Girgis | MD

Medically reviewed by Linda Girgis | MD, Girgis Family Medicine on August 20th, 2026.

Unexplained chin bruises typically result from minor trauma you don't remember, like bumping into furniture or touching your face during sleep. Blood vessel fragility increases with age, medications, and certain medical conditions, making bruising more likely from minimal contact. Anticoagulant medications like warfarin or aspirin can cause spontaneous bruising, as can vitamin deficiencies and bleeding disorders. Sun damage weakens skin over time, particularly on exposed areas like the chin. Most unexplained bruises resolve within 2-3 weeks, but persistent or frequent unexplained bruising warrants medical evaluation to rule out underlying conditions.
