Does Pantoprazole Cause Weight Gain?

Pantoprazole typically does not cause significant weight gain as a direct side effect. Clinical studies show that fewer than 2% of patients experience weight changes while taking this proton pump inhibitor. However, some people may gain weight indirectly due to improved appetite and reduced stomach discomfort after their acid reflux symptoms are controlled. The medication works by reducing stomach acid production, which can lead to better digestion and increased food intake in some individuals. Weight gain from pantoprazole is generally minimal and temporary. If you notice unexplained weight changes while taking pantoprazole, discuss this with your healthcare provider to rule out other causes.
