Does Flonase Work Better than Zyrtec?

Neither Flonase nor Zyrtec works universally better; they target different allergy mechanisms and symptoms. Flonase (fluticasone) is a nasal corticosteroid that reduces inflammation directly in nasal passages, making it more effective for nasal congestion and sinus pressure. Flonase may begin improving nasal stuffiness within about 12 hours, but its full effect can take several days of regular use. Zyrtec (cetirizine) is an oral antihistamine that blocks histamine throughout the body, making it useful for symptoms such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and some mild allergic skin symptoms. It is not a substitute for emergency treatment of a severe allergic reaction. Some people use both medicines, but combining them is not necessary for everyone.
