Does AZO Actually Cure a UTI or Just Treat Symptoms?

AZO only treats UTI symptoms and does not cure the underlying bacterial infection. The active ingredient phenazopyridine works as a urinary tract analgesic, numbing pain and reducing burning sensations within 1-2 hours of taking it. However, AZO has zero antibiotic properties and cannot eliminate the bacteria causing your UTI. Studies show that untreated UTIs can progress to serious kidney infections in 20-30% of cases. While AZO provides temporary relief for 6-8 hours per dose, you still need prescription antibiotics like nitrofurantoin or trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole to actually cure the infection and prevent complications.
