Does Amoxicillin Make You Tired?
Medically reviewed by Linda Girgis | MD, Girgis Family Medicine on August 21st, 2026.
Amoxicillin can cause fatigue in some people, though it's not one of the most common side effects. Clinical studies show that tiredness affects approximately 2-5% of patients taking amoxicillin. This fatigue typically occurs because your body is working hard to fight the infection while processing the antibiotic. The drowsiness may also result from disrupted sleep patterns due to gastrointestinal side effects like nausea or diarrhea, which are more frequent with amoxicillin use. Most fatigue is mild and temporary, resolving within a few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If you experience severe or persistent tiredness while taking amoxicillin, contact your healthcare provider to rule out other causes or potential allergic reactions.
