Coffee can significantly reduce the absorption of thyroid hormones like levothyroxine by up to 55%, making your medication less effective. The caffeine and other compounds in coffee interfere with how your intestines absorb the medication. Studies show that even small amounts of coffee consumed within an hour can dramatically decrease blood levels of thyroid hormones.
