Can You Drink Alcohol While Taking Amoxicillin?

Yes, you can drink alcohol while taking amoxicillin, but moderation is recommended. Unlike some antibiotics, amoxicillin doesn't have dangerous interactions with alcohol that would make drinking strictly forbidden. However, alcohol can interfere with your body's ability to fight infection and may worsen antibiotic side effects like nausea or dizziness. Studies show that excessive alcohol consumption can reduce immune system effectiveness for up to 24 hours after drinking. While moderate alcohol consumption won't stop amoxicillin from working, it's generally best to avoid drinking until you've completed your antibiotic course to give your body the best chance to recover from infection.
