Why Are My Breasts Sore After My Period Ended?
Medically reviewed by Linda Girgis | MD, Girgis Family Medicine on August 20th, 2026.
Breast soreness after your period occurs due to rising estrogen and progesterone levels. As your body prepares for the next menstrual cycle, these hormonal fluctuations cause breast tissue sensitivity in up to 70% of women. The tenderness typically resolves within a few days but can also result from caffeine intake, ill-fitting bras, or early pregnancy if conception occurred during your last cycle. Fibrocystic breast changes may also cause cyclical discomfort, which is benign but noticeable. If pain persists beyond a week, becomes severe, or occurs with lumps or discharge, consult your healthcare provider to rule out other conditions.
