Best Time To Take

When Should You Take Metamucil for Best Results?

Metamucil can generally be taken at a convenient time, following the product label or a clinician’s instructions. Taking psyllium before a meal may increase fullness for some people, but no single timing is best for every goal. Mix each dose with at least 8 ounces of liquid and drink it promptly. Do not take psyllium if you have difficulty swallowing unless a clinician says it is safe, and seek urgent care for chest pain, vomiting, trouble swallowing, or trouble breathing after a dose. Regular psyllium use may modestly lower LDL cholesterol in some people, but the effect varies with the dose, product, diet, and individual. It should not replace prescribed cholesterol treatment. For constipation, psyllium may take more than one dose or more than one day to work, so an evening dose will not reliably produce a bowel movement the next morning. Start with one serving daily and gradually increase to avoid gas or bloating. Get personalized timing recommendations through your Doctronic consultation.
