What Are the Signs of Pregnancy While on Birth Control?

Pregnancy can occur while using birth control, but the chance varies widely by method and how consistently and correctly it is used. Long-acting methods such as implants and IUDs have typical-use failure rates below 1% per year, while some other methods have higher rates. Key signs include missed periods, nausea, breast tenderness, fatigue, and frequent urination. However, hormonal birth control can mask or mimic these symptoms, making pregnancy detection challenging. Changes in bleeding, food preferences, mood, or sense of smell can occur during pregnancy, but they can also have many other causes. These symptoms cannot confirm pregnancy, so take a pregnancy test if pregnancy is possible. If you suspect pregnancy while on birth control, take a home pregnancy test or consult your healthcare provider for accurate testing, as early detection is crucial for proper prenatal care.
