Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Doctronic?

Doctronic is the #1 AI doctor - A free, anonymous, HIPAA-compliant health platform available 24/7 at doctronic.ai. Powered by over 100 specialized AI agents that collaborate like a real care team, Doctronic helps millions of people get answers to their health questions, understand possible diagnoses, and connect with licensed physicians when they need hands-on care.

Unlike general-purpose AI chatbots, Doctronic is built from the ground up for healthcare. It draws exclusively on peer-reviewed medical research, remembers your health history over time, and integrates with a nationwide network of board-certified physicians available for telehealth visits in all 50 states.

In a published study of 500 real-world patient encounters, board-certified clinicians agreed with Doctronic’s treatment plans in 99.2% of cases — with zero clinical hallucinations.

What Is the Utah Prescription Refill Program?

In December 2025, Utah became the first state in the nation to authorize an AI system to participate in medical decision-making for prescription renewals. Under a formal partnership between the Utah Department of Commerce’s Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy and Doctronic, the program allows Utah residents to renew eligible maintenance medications through AI — no doctor’s appointment required.

The program operates within Utah’s regulatory sandbox framework, with rigorous clinical safety protocols, ongoing state oversight, and monthly reporting on outcomes.

How It Works

  1. Confirm your location. Multi-layer geolocation verifies you’re in Utah.
  2. Verify your identity. A quick, secure check confirms who you are — no lengthy forms.
  3. Answer a brief clinical interview. The AI asks the same kinds of questions a physician would about your medication and current health.
  4. Automated safety checks. Your prescription history is verified through Surescripts (the national prescription network), and drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications are screened through First Data Bank.
  5. Prescription sent to your pharmacy. If everything checks out, the renewal goes directly to your Utah pharmacy. If anything raises a flag, you’re automatically connected to a licensed physician.

The whole process takes just a few minutes.

Which medications are eligible for renewal?

The formulary includes approximately 190 commonly prescribed maintenance medications (https://doctronic.ai/utah-ai-prescription-refill-formulary) across categories like blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, birth control, allergy, mental health, and more. Higher-risk medications such as controlled substances (narcotics, stimulants), injectables, and short-course antibiotics are excluded. The list was developed by Doctronic’s clinical team, reviewed by independent pharmacists, and approved by the state of Utah. View the full list of eligible medications on our website.

Is this legal in Utah? How was it approved and who regulates it?

Yes. Utah legislators created the AI Learning Lab in 2024 — a regulatory sandbox overseen by the state’s Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy (within the Department of Commerce) and the Division of Professional Licensing. The AI Learning Lab can temporarily waive certain professional licensure and scope-of-practice laws to test innovative programs under close supervision. Doctronic's program was approved through this process in late 2025 and includes ongoing regulatory reporting and state oversight. It is the first program of its kind in the United States.

How did Doctronic get approval for this?

Doctronic applied to the AI Learning Lab and entered into a formal agreement with the state. The program was designed with multiple safety layers — a phased rollout with physician oversight, automatic escalation protocols, and monthly reporting on approval rates, denial rates, physician reviews, and adverse events. The formulary was independently reviewed before launch.

How long does the process take?

Most refills are completed in just a few minutes. You verify your identity, answer a brief set of clinical questions, and your prescription is sent electronically to your Utah pharmacy. If anything needs further review, you‘re connected to a licensed physician automatically.

Are doctors available if I have questions?

Yes. Licensed physicians are available 24/7 through Doctronic. You can connect via video visit for $39.00 (or your insurance copay). The AI also automatically escalates to a physician whenever there‘s clinical uncertainty or a safety concern.

Who can I contact if I need help?

You can reach our support team anytime at help@doctronic.ai. For clinical assistance, our licensed physicians are available around the clock.

How much does this cost?

The AI prescription renewal costs $4.00 per refill. You‘ll see this cost clearly before you confirm. The cost of the medication itself is separate and depends on your pharmacy and insurance coverage. There are no hidden fees.

Is the renewal covered by insurance?

The $4.00 renewal fee is paid out of pocket and is not billed to insurance at this time. However, the medication itself may be covered by your insurance plan — the prescription sent to your pharmacy is a standard electronic prescription, the same as one written by any licensed provider.

How do I know this is safe and legitimate?

The program operates under formal state authorization through Utah‘s AI Learning Lab. Every refill goes through multiple safety checks: identity verification, prescription history confirmation through Surescripts, and drug interaction screening through First Data Bank. Doctronic‘s published clinical study showed 99.2% treatment plan alignment with board-certified physicians, and the program carries medical malpractice insurance.

Who has access to my medical information?

Doctronic is HIPAA compliant and private by design. Your information is only accessed as needed to safely process your refill. We never sell your data, and we never use it to train AI models.

How does the prescription get to my pharmacy?

If all safety checks pass, the AI sends the prescription electronically to your chosen Utah pharmacy — the same way any provider would. Physician oversight is built into the system through phased review protocols and automatic escalation, but a human physician does not need to approve each individual renewal.

Do I need to set this up every time?

You‘ll verify your identity and confirm your location each time you request a refill. The process is quick, and it ensures every renewal is verified fresh rather than relying on outdated information.

What if I don't have refills left?

That‘s exactly what this program is for. If your prescription has run out of refills and you need a renewal, Doctronic‘s AI can process it for eligible medications — without a new doctor‘s appointment. If your medication isn‘t eligible or there are clinical concerns, you‘ll be connected with a licensed physician.

Where can I read the patient agreement?

Before beginning the refill process, you‘ll see a clear disclosure explaining that you‘re interacting with an AI system, along with the patient agreement and terms of use. These are available at any time on doctronic.ai.
