What Does It Mean When Your Urine is Dark Yellow?

Dark yellow urine often means that the urine is concentrated, commonly because you have not had enough fluids. When you don't drink enough fluids, your kidneys conserve water by producing less urine with higher concentrations of urea, creatinine, and other waste compounds. Normal urine should be pale yellow to light amber in color. Urine color can also change after taking B-complex vitamins, certain medicines, or eating strongly colored foods such as beets or carrots, although these may cause colors other than dark yellow. In some cases, it may signal liver problems, urinary tract infections, or kidney issues. If dark urine persists despite increased water intake or is accompanied by other symptoms like pain, fever, or nausea, consult a healthcare provider for proper evaluation.
