Does Peyronie''s Disease Go Away on Its Own?

Andre Stone | MD

Medically reviewed by Andre Stone | MD, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine on August 25th, 2026.

Peyronie's disease sometimes improves without treatment during the early active phase, but complete resolution is uncommon. Pain may improve over time, while penile curvature is less likely to go away on its own. The condition typically progresses through two phases: an acute inflammatory phase lasting 6-18 months, followed by a chronic stable phase. During the acute phase, plaque formation is active and symptoms may fluctuate, with some men seeing natural improvement in curvature and pain. However, most cases stabilize without significant improvement once the chronic phase begins. Anyone with possible Peyronie's disease should discuss the symptoms and treatment timing with a qualified clinician. Penile traction may be considered in selected cases, while collagenase injections are used only for certain patients. Vitamin E has not been shown to reliably improve the condition.
